Resident Evil Revelations 2 - Episode 2: Contemplation Review | Throwing Digital Sheep

Episode Two doesn't improve upon anything from the first. What it does instead, is grab a hold of the good and inject it with a moderately high dose of testosterone; Even though the 'good' here being the 'story and narrative' alone, it works!

DC:
Similar to my recent first foray into the massive Final Fantasy franchise, Resident Evil Revelations 2 is one of the now three Resident Evil games I have played. Recently I got to experience the HD Remaster of the Gamecube version and really enjoyed it. Six years ago, I think even to the week actually, I co-oped through Resident Evil 5 in one sitting with a buddy of mine and had a good time. Co-op action returns in Revelations 2 via local split-screen play (online co-op play is only supported for the separate Raid Mode), although unfortunately I have had very little opportunity to play Revelations 2 in co-op just due to scheduling and all that other BS. Suffice it to say that what little local co-op I did play, I enjoyed more than playing single player and working with the AI, which goes for about every game out there -- co-op makes nearly every experience better, see any Army of Two game, any brawler, or Diablo III. That's not to say that Revelations 2 is not fun single player...

Attack of the Fanboy :
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 brings back a few classic RE staples, but still won't please most longtime fans. Those seeking standard action will still enjoy the third-person shooter gameplay though.

Josh from Start Replay writes, "Taking a seat back and soaking in every episode as one story, its clear that Capcom have treated this as the ultimate testing ground to figure out the future tone of the series."

Josh from Start Replay write, "The ending to a game must be hard to envisage, particularly if its being singled out and provided episodically. There has to be substance but also some kind of finality. With the ending episode to Revelations 2 I found it treading a razors edge, as it seemed to drag certain segments on for too long, and ended others rather abruptly."

Hey Poor Player's Alec Rose writes - "Capcom has me believing again. Im not saying that Resident Evil Revelations 2 is an amazing or perfect game by any standards But this game could definitely serve as a watershed moment for the RE series overall. Its structured digital episodic release as well as general game direction could certainly be seen as a step in the right direction for the franchise."
